DMD 331 — wet/wet differential media
DMD 331 is identified as a wet/wet differential pressure instrument, making process material compatibility important on both pressure ports. Select the exact 20 mbar–16 bar portfolio range, diaphragm seals, process temperature and allowable common-mode/static pressure; differential measuring capability does not mean unlimited line pressure. A published 0.5% FSO accuracy class refers to the fitted span. Compare fluid isolation and installation with silicon low-range DMD 341 before proposing a replacement.
DMD 331 — wet/wet stainless differential process transmitter: technical profile and specification boundaries
Original BD|SENSORS catalogue differentiates calibrated pressure ranges, media and approval tiers. A family range and optional certification must not be confused with the ordered device.
| Parameter | Original maker statement | Practical selection note |
|---|---|---|
| Sensing method | Two-sided 316L-family stainless-steel piezoresistive differential sensing element | Can measure compatible liquid or gas on both high and low sides. |
| Available differential spans | 0–20 mbar up to 0–16 bar across ordered versions | A wide catalogue spans many individual cells; no single transmitter is universally settable. |
| Published accuracy | ±0.5% FSO | FSO is full scale output, not percent reading near zero. |
| Application media | Compatible with stainless-steel 1.4404 / 1.4435 and the specified seals | Wet/wet does not grant universal corrosive chemical compatibility. |
| Body / integration | Compact industrial process housing; threaded process connections | Pressure-tight fittings and venting affect accuracy and safety. |
| Safety variants | BD|SENSORS shows an Ex-labelled family option | A catalogue Ex icon is not an exact ATEX/IECEx marking for an unordered version. |
| Electrical signal | Analog current/voltage options subject to exact part code | Identify two-wire or three-wire supply and loop load from order number. |
Application engineering and commissioning
DMD 331 is appropriate where both pressure ports may contact process fluids, unlike silicon/gas-oriented DMD 341. Select wetted material and seals separately from the nominal gauge pressure. The positive-minus-negative pressure must remain within both the differential cell’s range and its line/static pressure limits; high static line pressure can damage tubing, seals or the sensing element even with a small differential. Assign alarm direction, pressure unit, signal scaling and proper bleed/venting in the control system. Confirm current Ex certificate only for appropriately marked production units.
