DwyerOmega Series AVUL
Manufacturer: DwyerOmega
HVAC-oriented thermal air velocity transmitter, coated sensing element.
Technical Profile
| Primary measurement technology | Hot-wire thermal anemometry |
|---|---|
| Measurement range | Selectable 1,000 / 2,000 / 3,000 / 4,000 FPM full-scale |

Selection Notes
Check the exact ordering code and manufacturer specifications for accuracy, calibration, probe geometry, supply voltage, permitted environment, signal mapping and installation clearances. Do not assume all variants share the same interface or range.

AVUL — thermal probe versus BACnet output
DwyerOmega’s AVUL line has selectable air-velocity ranges reported up to 4,000 fpm and different analog or BACnet interface versions. Do not interpret the selectable range as proof of a fixed BACnet feature in every part number. Confirm the exact sensor coating, air temperature limits, output scaling and communications/device addressing. Where filters or coils disturb flow, test a stable duct location; one local speed value only becomes volume flow after duct-area and profile considerations.
DwyerOmega AVUL — 3% versus 5% and output-order code
The details below are specific model or order-family properties taken from the original equipment maker. For each installed unit, suffix, test conditions and revised documentation govern.
| Attribute | Manufacturer data | Engineering significance |
|---|---|---|
| Full-scale options | Field selectable 1,000/2,000/3,000/4,000 FPM (5/10/15/20 m/s) | Use a span near the expected peak velocity without sacrificing useful low-speed resolution. |
| Accuracy suffix | –3: ±(3% of reading + 0.2 m/s); –5: ±(5% of reading + 0.2 m/s) | The ±0.2 m/s fixed term matters especially at low flow. |
| Analog outputs | A1 universal analog: simultaneous 0–5 V, 0–10 V and 4–20 mA | Compatibility with BAS input must be engineered for chosen output and grounding. |
| Network suffixes | B1: BACnet MS/TP; M1: Modbus RTU/ASCII with analog option | Do not list BACnet on an A1-only unit as factory present. |
| Supply / response | Approximately 19–30 V AC/DC; t90 about 10 s | Use correct supply design and account for slow control-loop response. |
| Probe / enclosure | Duct-mounted sensing head, probe tip parallel to flow; IP66/NEMA 4X housing | Enclosure IP rating does not establish Ex approval or high-temperature process suitability. |
| Process conditions | 0–50 °C and 5–95% RH non-condensing | Use only with compatible clean, nonflammable gases. |
Engineering selection and installation
A properly selected AVUL is useful for VAV/duct air-speed trending, not for direct hazardous-gas or high-temperature exhaust duties. DwyerOmega lists a current-output load of up to 1,100 Ω and a minimum 1 kΩ voltage-output receiver load; validate interface burden and available voltage at the measurement point. The manufacturer provides push-button zero/span calibration and LCD/NIST/calibration document options by suffix. For volumetric flow estimates, verify duct internal dimensions and the flow profile; a single local thermal velocity reading is not necessarily duct mean velocity.
