ZE03-O₂ — volume percent and host signal

ZE03-O₂ is an electrochemical oxygen module with conditioning electronics and UART/analog outputs in the listed family. The recorded nominal 0–25% volume measuring span serves oxygen-rich/depleted air assessment, not a CO₂ ppm reading. The receiving host must handle electrode ageing, fresh-air or maker-prescribed calibration, warm-up and sensor-fault conditions. Confirm supplied output mode and calibration at ambient pressure, humidity and temperature; a bare ZE03 sensing module is not a fully certified confined-space safety alarm.

ZE03-O₂: gas-specific output and UART engineering

The ZE03 family combines an electrochemical sensing cell with a microcontroller and temperature compensation. The original manufacturer’s ZE03 v2.5 manual (2018) records oxygen-specific values that cannot be copied across ZE03 CO, NO₂ and other gas variants. Confirm newer shipment-specific calibration with Winsen.

O₂ variant parameter OEM documentation Integration caution
Gas range and resolution 0–25% volume oxygen; 0.1 vol% resolution (ZE03 v2.5 manual) 0.1% volume resolution is 1,000 ppm gas fraction, not 0.1 ppm.
Response time T90 ≤15 s in the 2018 oxygen row Cell age, sampling inlet and test conditions can change actual installed-system latency.
UART voltage and framing 3 V TTL-level serial logic, 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, one stop bit; default active reporting each second Use logic-level serial input; 3 V TTL UART does not equal RS-232/RS-485 or Modbus RTU.
Analog VO polarity Older v2.5 O₂ variant lists approximately 1.5 V at 0 vol% and a non-universal output towards 0 V at 25 vol% Winsen explicitly states that the actual top-end voltage depends on the supplied inspection report; do not hard-code 0 V as the 25% endpoint.
DC supply and service 5 ±0.1 V, <5 mA; nominal 2-year working life; 23.5 mm diameter × 24.5 mm module (current Winsen model page) Plan end-of-life diagnostics and prescribed oxygen span/zero calibration, not just an arbitrary fixed ppm correction.

Practical commissioning sequence

Read the label and detection-range suffix, check the supplied report for analog zero/span calibration, and select active UART streaming or request/answer mode. A generic 3 V TTL receiver must handle checksums and gas-specific engineering units. Establish a realistic atmospheric O₂ reference and avoid assuming that a 0–25 vol% cell alone provides safety-compliant oxygen-deficiency alarms or medical-grade oxygen monitoring.
