Engineering note: DFRobot makes the module, not the thermal conductivity sensing die. It uses Sensirion STCC4 plus SHT40; this integration-ready board is therefore listed separately from the bare chip.

Measurement Principles and Applications

Thermal conductivity CO₂ measurement senses differences in heat transport through the surrounding gas mixture. Unlike optical NDIR or photoacoustic technologies, its response depends on background gas composition and usually requires compensation for temperature, humidity and pressure. The correct calibration mixture and performance requirements vary between indoor air monitoring and high-concentration process applications.

Integration Considerations

SEN0678 is a three-parameter indoor-air module, not a 0–100 vol% process sensor. Confirm the board’s 3.3–5 V power rail, host I²C address selection, 10–40°C / non-condensing humidity limits and SHT40 compensation when integrating multiple nodes.

Source-verified model engineering details · October 2026

SEN0678 is a DFRobot Gravity carrier module containing Sensirion’s STCC4 thermal-conductivity CO₂ die and an onboard SHT40 temperature/RH element. It is materially different from ordering the bare STCC4 and designing a custom PCB.

Board supply / interface3.3–5 V DC; Gravity I²C connector; selectable 0x64 or 0x65 host addressDifferentiate host-visible Gravity address from the STCC4’s separate internal SHT4x compensation interface.
Measurement channelsCO₂ 400–5,000 ppm, ±(100 ppm + 10% reading); SHT40 temperature + RHThis is actual thermal-conductivity-derived CO₂, not VOC-inferred eCO₂; still validate the gas mixture.
Operating environment10–40°C; 20–80% RH non-condensing; 32 × 22 mm PCBNot suitable by default for a cold duct, condensing enclosure or high-temperature industrial process.
Power and responseMaker’s selection chart quotes <4.8 mW at 5 V (~950 µA continuous), 1 µA deep sleep and <20 s responseConfirm the actual complete-board current for your firmware cadence, SHT40 traffic and supply; do not equate sleep and continuously measuring modes.

Board-level installation and data-quality notes

DFRobot physically cuts away PCB material around the TC sensing die to reduce heat transfer from other circuitry. Keep this region ventilated, protect the yellow permeable membrane from scratching and organic solvents, and avoid hot regulators, fans or housing walls that could alter thermal gradients. Use the published SEN0678 software examples to confirm address selection and calibration behaviour.

Selection note: This board suits proof-of-concept IAQ nodes, educational systems and compact controlled environments. It is not presented as a calibrated industrial fixed gas safety detector. DFRobot is the carrier-board manufacturer; Sensirion produces the chip and SHT40.
