MH-410D — percent-volume versus room ppm CO₂
MH-410D is an NDIR module positioned for optional ranges up to 10% CO₂ by volume, unlike ordinary 0–5,000 ppm ventilation sensors. Host software must explicitly map the 0.4–2 V analog signal or UART data to correct engineering units and ordered range: 1% volume CO₂ equals 10,000 ppm. The accuracy varies by range and calibration. Confirm power supply, sampling gas composition, preheat and seal/optical contamination requirements; a high-concentration chamber measurement should not automatically be treated as a life-safety alarm.
Winsen MH-410D — industrial percent-volume CO₂, analogue 0.4–2 V — engineering selection and model documentation
The published manufacturer values below are bounded to their orderable range, test conditions and actual interface, not general guarantees about every relative in the same sensor family.
| Parameter | Manufacturer evidence | Engineering boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Measurement class | NDIR CO₂ for percent-volume industrial gas | Distinguish %vol high-concentration control from 400–2,000 ppm room ventilation. |
| Order range | Industrial family rated to 0–10% vol by selected sensor; 10%vol equals 100,000 ppm | Do not treat the entire 10%-vol option as an IAQ-grade 1ppm resolution span. |
| Output hardware | UART serial and 0.4–2 V analogue output documented by maker | An analogue voltage signal is not a 4–20mA passive loop or native BACnet. |
| Supply / environment | 3.6–5.0 V DC; −20 to +60 °C; 0–95%RH noncondensing | The sensor itself cannot be powered from a 24 V BAS line. |
| Sensor life | Manufacturer quotes >5-year designed operating life | Check drift and original reference-gas validation, especially at high concentration. |
| Startup | Original model page describes ~3-minute preheat | Block early values and consider downstream tubing lag. |
System integration and calibration
Because 0–10%vol CO₂ is a high process-gas level, the sensor should not be described as an occupancy indicator with the same error budget as compact 2kppm units. If selected for biogas or fermentation, verify pressure, carrier-gas interference, sample-path contamination and humidity. A correctly displayed percent CO₂ level does not measure oxygen depletion directly: use independent oxygen/personal safety instrumentation. Controller decoding of the 0.4–2V analogue mode must use its exact ordered full-scale, not a generic 0–5V input scale.
