Senseair LP8 — host-controlled 3.6mC sampling and ABC policy

Original Senseair documentation identifies concrete product codes and operating conditions. Accuracy, power, communications and calibration claims below are restricted to the specified variant.

Engineering itemManufacturer valueDesign meaning
Core gas/technologyNDIR CO₂, article 005-0-0001 with pin headers or 005-0-0003 withoutMechanical connection choices are not interchangeable without PCB redesign.
Current maker range0–10,000 ppm, ±(50 ppm + 3% reading)An older regional catalog cites 0–2,000 ppm; confirm the installed sensor revision before final span claims.
Sampling energy3.6 mC per measurement, or 11.9 mJ at 3.3 V battery supplyPowering the unit off between readings is part of the intended integration.
Power supply and peak2.9–5.5 V, up to 125 mA during readings; manufacturer lists ~31 µA average duty-cycle referenceMCU/radio regulator must survive IR source pulse and battery internal resistance.
Host protocolUART with a Modbus-like low-power host/slave protocolPhysical bus is not natively a 24V/RS485 industrial field transmitter.
Baseline controlABC is host-controlled; source describes an approximately eight-day background cycleSoftware must count actual elapsed time and issue calibration/control command.
Operating scope<85% RH; intended long battery operation, >15-year sensor designA fresh-air baseline algorithm may fail in permanently enriched CO₂ spaces.

Application, firmware and calibration considerations

LP8 specifically expects the host to control the sampling cadence and automatic baseline correction schedule; it is not appropriate to attach power permanently and assume a generic 5-second sensor behavior. At a one-minute duty cycle the module can exhibit low average current, but its 125mA instantaneous demand can cause regulator brownouts. Integrate factory calibration and ABC handling into firmware and log firmware version, sensor age and measurement interval. Current Senseair HTML states a broader 10kppm family band than an older regional 2kppm catalog; avoid guaranteeing a particular full-scale for unknown production revisions.
