Mulberry CO₂ — dual-channel optical integration
Mulberry CO₂ is an NDIR module family with a UART-style digital host interface and multiple physical pin/package options. Dual-channel optics can aid reference compensation, but delivered CO₂ range, calibration and temperature behavior must come from the actual suffix and gas-specific data sheet. Confirm UART voltage levels, message framing, optical sampling placement and warm-up. A 4-pin module may not match a 5-pin connection mechanically or electrically, and a component does not establish finished equipment safety approval.
Mulberry CO₂ — 4-Series safety-grade NDIR: original-maker engineering review
The current eLichens gas-sensor product range distinguishes 1-Series versus 4-Series hardware, gas-specific calibration and certificate scope. Family descriptions do not establish every exact ordered module’s performance or complete-device approval.
| Feature | Manufacturer basis | Engineering distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Detection target | Carbon dioxide (CO₂) using dual-channel optical NDIR design | Different IR spectral calibration from methane Mulberry modules. |
| Mechanical family | 4-Series footprint; Mulberry offered in 4-pin and 5-pin configurations | Pin-count equivalence does not prove that CO₂ and methane variants have identical pin assignments. |
| Optical stability | Reference-channel temperature/ageing compensation and digital self-calibration in original eLichens range | An optical reference is not a substitute for end-product acceptance testing. |
| Sampling interface | UART digital measurement family | Do not interpret UART serial as Modbus RS485, HART or industrial 4–20 mA. |
| Power design | Manufacturer 4-Series ultra-low-power architecture; application-specific power budget | Do not assign exact current of Bilberry or Mulberry Duo to single-gas Mulberry. |
| CO₂ measurement | Gas-specific CO₂ safety/detection variant; concentrations and output coding depend on ordered module | A CO₂ sensor cannot replace a methane LEL sensor. |
| Regulatory basis | Maker markets relevant safety sensor variants with ATEX/IECEx/HazLoc listings | Validate actual component part number and certificate and then separately certify assembled equipment. |
Integration and safety assessment
Mulberry CO₂ is useful where compact OEM instruments need carbon-dioxide detection, but an assembly combining this module with a power board, buzzer and enclosure requires full equipment-level safety engineering. Check reference channel baseline, UART frame integrity, calibration gas test, diffusion ports and enclosure ventilation. Do not equate 5% CO₂ volume with 5% methane lower explosive limit; they are distinct physical quantities and risks. A Mulberry CO₂ PCB is not a drop-in replacement for an R32 or CH₄ optical unit.
