Cranberry CO₂ — compact sensor versus completed alarm
Cranberry CO₂ is a compact NDIR sensing family for integration into equipment. Module dimensions and diffusion opening are important when placing it inside a product housing: internal stagnant air can make response slower than the standalone module’s lab test. Confirm the actual range, output protocol, start-up behavior and CO₂ calibration conditions of the selected Cranberry code. Do not substitute the R32 refrigerant Cranberry merely because the packages have a common family name.
Cranberry CO₂ — 1-Series compact NDIR gas module: original-maker engineering review
The current eLichens gas-sensor product range distinguishes 1-Series versus 4-Series hardware, gas-specific calibration and certificate scope. Family descriptions do not establish every exact ordered module’s performance or complete-device approval.
| Feature | Manufacturer basis | Engineering distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Sensor architecture | Single target carbon dioxide in 1-Series compact dual-channel NDIR optical family | CO₂ concentration is not equivalent to a generic VOC index. |
| Mechanical format | Manufacturer describes the Cranberry platform as 1-Series, approximately 20 × 20 × 10 mm in original integration article | Cranberry has a different connector/evaluation platform from 4-Series Mulberry. |
| Sampling rate | Manufacturer states two measurements per second for Cranberry family | Numerical sample frequency is not equal to gas diffusion response time. |
| Response and correction | Family OEM T90 under 30 s statement and temperature/ageing optical compensation | Confirm current CO₂-specific datasheet for exact response conditions. |
| Electrical output | Digital UART platform | Requires decoded OEM concentration/fault/status output, not direct 24 V analog input. |
| Power budget | Maker advertises ultra-low-power NDIR family and battery-oriented integration | Use the exact Cranberry CO₂ measurement mode and transient current for battery sizing. |
| Ex safety | eLichens states Cranberry variants have ATEX/IECEx certifications | A certified component does not automatically certify the portable alarm housing or system. |
Integration and safety assessment
For a wearable or fixed CO₂ safety device, check which Cranberry CO₂ variant measures ppm and which supports percent-volume. A small module may have sensor-calibrated output but local alarm contacts, battery charging, display and audible indicators are outside its standalone functions. Design diffusion paths, compensating temperature sensing and periodic alarm self-tests. Do not substitute a 4-Series Mulberry in the same footprint or use the Cranberry R32 sensor as a CO₂ spare.
