Verified Monnit Ordering Variant
Monnit’s ALTA Wireless CO₂ sensor uses NDIR detection with a 0–10,000 ppm range and eight-hour time-weighted readings. Official US-market example ordering codes include MNS2-9-W2-GS-C2 (standard AA enclosure) and MNS2-9-W2-GS-C2-SW (AA enclosure with on/off switch). Radio-frequency variants vary by market: do not treat the US 900 MHz code as the universal EU or international SKU.

ALTA CO2 NDIR telemetry integration
The ALTA CO₂ sensor uses an NDIR measurement element in a battery/wireless reporting architecture, not a directly wired continuous BMS analog transmitter. Confirm the configured sample/report interval, regional radio, gateway, battery-service plan and reference/calibration strategy. A rapid ventilation control loop may need a different update behavior than long-term space monitoring. Wireless availability and measurement accuracy are separate reliability criteria.
ALTA CO₂ — NDIR accuracy, eight-hour TWA and correct fresh-air calibration
| Parameter | Manufacturer fact | Selection/QA significance |
|---|---|---|
| Optical gas method | Non-dispersive infrared (NDIR), not generic low-cost MEMS gas-reactivity sensor | CO₂-specific measurement suitable for ventilation monitoring but not a certified oxygen sufficiency monitor. |
| Range/precision | 0–10,000 ppm CO₂; 1 ppm resolution; maker ±45 ppm + 3% of reading | Add fixed and proportional terms at the actual concentration. This is not simply ±3% FS. |
| Readings | Instantaneous concentration and 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA) reported through ALTA Gateway/iMonnit | Averaged CO₂ exposure is distinct from real-time leak or ventilation alarm. |
| Calibration sequence | Altitude pressure compensation before fresh-air zero; known outdoor air reference | Manufacturer recommends >15 min in outdoor fresh air before calibration. Insist on known concentration and the same site elevation. |
| Auto-calibration hazard | Lowest concentration in the selected baseline period is treated as ~400 ppm | In permanently CO₂-enriched greenhouse/storage spaces, this assumption can bias readings; disable or redesign calibration with a certified reference. |
Radio, calibration and safety boundary
Check exact radio region, gateway compatibility, the delivered maker part number, firmware and calibration revision. A radio/cloud alert is not an independently certified hazardous-area instrument or hardwired emergency alarm, unless the exact installed system and approval evidence explicitly demonstrate it.
