SIKA turbine — moving rotor and pressure loss

The SIKA VT20 photo illustrates a mechanical turbine flow family, whose sensing rotor can be affected by solids, viscosity and insufficient fluid flow. Determine the correct liquid, minimum measurable velocity, acceptable pressure loss and service cleaning method before selecting a turbine design. Meter calibration can depend on installed pipe conditions. It should not be substituted for a magnetic-induction induQ device merely because both list litres-per-minute outputs.

SIKA VTY, VT and VTR — rotor flow sensor and pulse calibration

Family / parameterOriginal maker evidenceEngineering difference
Operating principleA rotor turns with liquid flow; Hall/inductive pickup creates pulses proportional to volumeA turbine needs suitable medium lubricity/cleanliness; it is a moving-parts system distinct from vortex VVX.
VTY10 / VTY15 / VTY20DN10: 1–30 L/min; DN15: 1–45 L/min; DN20: 1–60 L/minIndividual calibrated pulse frequency and plumbing connection depend on purchased unit.
VTY25 / VT40VTY25 maker German range 1–90 L/min; VT40 6.7–417 L/minThese family ranges are not universal calibration for all VTY/VT sizes.
Common electrical interfacePulsed NPN output for VTY and VT series; special inductive/Hall variants for VTRCount pulses and apply maker K-factor (pulses/L), not 0–10V without a separate signal converter.
VTR industrial stainlessThreaded DN10–50 and flanged DN10–300 options, separate electromagnetic Hall/sine or square-wave pickupsPick-up type, fluid viscosity, flow direction and upstream piping affect output pulse waveform and calibration.
Media and QAPrimarily water and water mixtures; potable-water type approvals only on qualified VTY optionsDo not use VTY accuracy for highly viscous process oils or assert explosive atmosphere certification.

Selection and qualification checklist

Check flow arrow, pipe gasket/installation torque, pickup supply, pulse-count scaling and wear/rotor fouling. The actual calibration factor must be read from device nameplate or certificate rather than a guessed pulses/L number.
