The pictured enterprise AA enclosure uses differential pressure plus ambient/altitude compensation to calculate air speed. Industrial enclosures and frequency-specific SKUs differ.

ALTA air velocity — gateway and duct reference
Monnit ALTA air-velocity sensing uses a pressure-difference-based approach, requiring the exact duct/pickup arrangement and air-density/temperature assumptions to map DP to speed. Regional radio band, gateway availability and sample/report cadence affect operational monitoring separately from sensor calibration. A dropped cloud packet must never be read as zero airflow. The pictured enclosure is a product variant, not an ATEX/IECEx approval or proof of a continuously wired fan-safety contact.
ALTA air velocity — differential pneumatic inputs rather than thermal hot-wire
| Parameter | Manufacturer fact | Selection/QA significance |
|---|---|---|
| Actual sensing method | Measures a pressure difference between two pneumatic ports and compensates for ambient temperature and altitude | It is not a direct heated-wire PAV MEMS air speed component. Connect proper pressure tube/probe geometry. |
| Air-speed reporting | Computes m/s from measured Δp and settings; iMonnit supports mph, km/h, knots and other derived speed units | The Pitot/Bernoulli relation and air-density compensation differ from directly measured volumetric flow. |
| CFM/CMH conversion | Software provides airflow-volume unit conversion options | Reliable CFM requires calibrated duct dimensions, probe coefficient and representative cross-sectional pressure profile; speed alone is insufficient. |
| Configuration requirement | Altitude entry in metres, with default 0 m | Leaving default altitude in a materially elevated installation can bias air-density correction. |
| Radio installation | ALTA industrial and enterprise variants exist with region-specific frequency and antenna | Wireless reporting, battery and cloud alerts are not a fail-safe hardwired fan-proving contact. |
Radio, calibration and safety boundary
Check exact radio region, gateway compatibility, the delivered maker part number, firmware and calibration revision. A radio/cloud alert is not an independently certified hazardous-area instrument or hardwired emergency alarm, unless the exact installed system and approval evidence explicitly demonstrate it.
