9610 CXc vs 9800 CXi — process calorimeter selection
| Selection point | Verified manufacturer information |
|---|---|
| 9610 CXc technology | Continuous catalytic combustion at approximately 800 °C, with zirconia residual-oxygen measurement; designed for fast fuel-gas energy and combustion-control indication. |
| 9610 CXc measured quantities | Wobbe Index, heating/calorific value and Combustion Air Requirement Index (CARI). Optional gas-density and hydrogen measurement require configuration verification. |
| 9610 CXc response | Manufacturer quotes T90 under 5 seconds for the base configuration; do not extend this figure to the entire sampling installation. |
| 9800 CXi technology | Injection-style high-temperature combustion (approximately 1,000 °C), consuming a controlled aliquot while returning most sample flow via the fast loop. |
| 9800 CXi focus | Heating value of difficult fuel/flare gas streams, including high-sulfur applications, with a zero-hydrocarbon-emissions design goal. Wobbe Index and CARI depend on the purchased configuration. |
| Model decision | Choose 9610 CXc for rapid continuous Wobbe/CARI control loops; consider 9800 CXi when a difficult or sulfur-rich flare/fuel gas sample and low emissions drive the selection. |
| Hazardous areas | Product literature discusses hazardous-area options but this family profile does not assign an Ex rating. Ask for the specific model, enclosure marking and valid certificate. |
Do not confuse heating value (energy per fuel quantity), Wobbe Index (energy interchangeability under similar pressure conditions), and CARI (combustion-air demand). Gas composition, sampling-system delay, reference conditions and intended control duty affect comparability. The picture on this page represents a 9610 family instrument, not the 9800.
