SMART 3 safe-area — distinguish classification and current nomenclature
The original AirAlign family entry represents the Sensitron SMART 3 safe-area gas-detector concept, not an ATEX Zone 1 or Zone 2 field transmitter. Sensitron’s current application material names the SMART 3 NC detector for unclassified areas such as indoor healthcare oxygen monitoring and other commercial sites. This proves the present safe-area application, but it does not by itself prove every historical SMART 3 family suffix is electrically or mechanically identical to SMART 3 NC.
For a replacement or new build, reconcile the exact label and catalog number with Sensitron, then select the actual sensing technology and calibrated gas range. A safe-area sensor can still be part of a supervised alarm system, but any hazardous-zone application requires a separately certified model. Verify the applicable relay or 4–20 mA controller integration and fail-safe response rather than importing SMART 3G D3 or SMART S-SS approval statements.
