Crowcon IR Plus Infrared Hydrocarbon Gas Detector — IECEx Display Variants

Crowcon IR Plus dual-waveband infrared hydrocarbon gas detector with heated optics and hydrophobic STAY-CLIR reflector, intended for heavy-industrial methane and propane detection in high humidity and condensing applications. It is distinct from Crowcon IRmax.
Manufacturer-published specifications
- Infrared methane, propane, ethylene and other selected hydrocarbon calibrations; availability differs by approved gas
- Manufacturer-reported T90 4 seconds under specified test gas / flow conditions, not every site flow configuration
- 316L stainless-steel enclosure, IP66, −40 to +70°C operating, humidity up to 100% RH condensing
- 12–30 VDC supply; heater-on peak below 5.5 W; 3-wire 4–20mA plus RS-485 Modbus; HART 7 optional
- Options include no display, fixed display and remote display through an intrinsically safe interface; 5-year manufacturer warranty terms vary by model
Actual model-specific IECEx certificate distinction — official manufacturer PDFs
Without display — IECEx SGS 23.0057X, issue 0 (17 September 2024): Ex db IIC T4 Gb at −40…+70°C, Ex db IIC T6 Gb at −40…+60°C, or Ex tb IIIC T135°C Db at −40…+70°C, depending on the certified configuration. This certificate does not contain the display circuit’s Ex ia certification. Original IECEx SGS 23.0057X schedule.
With display / intrinsically safe interface — IECEx SGS 23.0058X, issue 0 (17 September 2024): Ex db ia IIC T4 Gb at −40…+70°C; qualifying remote/handheld-display versions additionally have dust marking Ex tb ia IIIC T135°C Db with −40…+40°C restriction. Original IECEx SGS 23.0058X display-specific schedule.
Special installation restrictions from display certificate: Equipment earthing through cable gland and steel-armoured cable; do not repair flamepaths; install the main detector horizontally within ±15°; in explosive dust atmospheres mount the display only in a non-hazardous area. Display-interface cable type, length and electrical characteristics must comply with certificate annex. These manufacturer certification documents are not interchangeable by omitting or adding the display.

Manufacturer also now lists FM approval, but its exact supplied module and regional FM certificate must be checked before claiming an FM-approved installed assembly; the above IECEx schedules alone do not establish it.
IR Plus — optics and display-version certification
IR Plus uses heated optics for challenging moisture environments and supports distinct display, no-display and remote-display configurations. The sensing technology targets selected hydrocarbons, not hydrogen; identify the actual methane/propane calibration and optical path condition before specifying 4–20 mA scaling. The reported 4-second response is a defined test circumstance, not a guaranteed installed tank/duct response. Different IECEx display configurations and approved accessories need their own exact certificate schedules.
