MEMS thermal conductivity refrigerant leakage sensing device/platform.

Manufacturer: Posifa Technologies.

Component suitability: OEM components are not certified hazardous-area systems by default. A2L leak detection requires the finished system to meet all applicable safety requirements; do not infer Ex-proof approval.

Original producer family / ordering check

Posifa’s PGS6000 series is an OEM refrigerant detection platform; the manufacturer describes UL 60335-2-40/Annex LL recognition for specified PGS6032-R / PGS6454-R configurations. UL component recognition is not ATEX/IECEx approval for a finished hazardous-area instrument.

PGS6000 A2L detector module use

A MEMS thermal-conductivity refrigerant sensor depends on the detected refrigerant family, calibration algorithm and environmental response. Check the PGS6000’s actual compatible A2L refrigerant list, specified range and time response with the manufacturer; do not treat it as a universal Ex-proof gas detector. The host must distinguish normal zero, sensor fault, out-of-range and true leak conditions before controlling fans or compressors.

PGS6000 family — thermal-conductivity A2L sensing and ambient correction

Model / criterionMaker source dataEngineering / QA consequence
Measurement targetMildly flammable A2L refrigerants R32 and R454B in air, not a generic combustible-gas ppm sensorRefrigerant identity and composition affect thermal conductivity and require refrigerant-specific calibration.
Sensing elementSecond-generation MEMS thermal conductivity die using a heat-transfer cavity suppressing natural convectionUnlike catalytic beads, physical gas conduction rather than combustion is the primary method.
Compensation and interfaceHumidity sensor and barometric sensor assist mixture correction; RS485 Modbus RTU supportedConfirm gas concentration units, alarm/fault registers, bus address and poll rate for actual PGS6032-R/PGS6454-R order.
Response and working conditionsManufacturer lists detection element response below 250 ms; absolute max operating −40…+85°C and supply 5.5 VDCDo not confuse fast chip signal response with leak-detector inlet and system shutdown latency; 5.5V is absolute maximum, not nominal supply.
Reliability and approvalsAdvertised lifetime over 15 years; specific sensor models recognized by UL for UL 60335-2-40:2022 Annex LLManufacturer recognition is model/standard specific and does not certify a full heat pump’s protective controls or any general ATEX/IECEx environment.

Qualification notes

An integrated A2L mitigation design requires leak alarm threshold in the chosen refrigerant’s LFL units, fault handling, ventilation/fan response and revalidation after component replacement. Certification must be traced to the precise PGS model and certificate, not the generic PGS6000 family.
