Exact chip package, optical filter, field of view and temperature range require the manufacturer’s current part-number datasheet.
HTPA array size versus thermal image resolution
HTPA 8×8, 16×16 and 32×32 arrays have different pixel counts and potentially different readout, optics, frame rate and host processing requirements. Select by angular field of view, object size, temperature accuracy and electrical interface from the actual array datasheet. A low-resolution infrared array is not automatically a CO₂ sensor or an intrinsically safe temperature alarm. The pictured 8×8 part is an example, not the complete series.
Heimann HTPA pixel counts and 8×8 readout interface
| Option / criterion | Original maker technical detail | Design implication |
|---|---|---|
| HTPA 8×8d | 64 thermal pixels; TO-46, 16-bit ADC, factory EEPROM; digital I²C | Supply 3.3–3.6 V, current nominal 2 mA; do not generalize these to the 16×16/32×32 electronics. |
| 8×8 timing and view | 7–160 fps maker specification, NETD 115 mK @1 Hz; 23° or 47° FOV options | The maximum rate and thermal sensitivity are measured at different settings; choose integration and filtering requirements. |
| HTPA 16×16d | 256 independent thermal pixels, official low-cost array option | Four times as many pixels as 8×8; check actual FOV, interface and frame rate on this specific variant. |
| HTPA 32×32d | 1024 thermal pixels for low-resolution imaging / occupancy and hot spots | Sixteen times as many pixels as 8×8; raw image rate, processing and power change. |
| Module vs sensor | Separate manufacturer modules support interfaces including PoE, SPI and USB | These are optional module interfaces, not necessarily direct pins on the bare HTPA array die. |
Selection, integration and qualification
Array resolution is not visual camera resolution or proof of body-temperature diagnostic accuracy. Thermography depends on emissivity, optical FOV, calibrated temperature interval and the target filling enough pixels. A maker photograph of 8×8 does not represent 16×16 or 32×32 mechanically.
