Crowcon T4x Portable Four-Gas Detector

Portable four-gas detector with long-life O₂ and MPS sensor technology according to Crowcon’s catalog.

Original manufacturer: Crowcon.

Ex-proof certification: original model documentation required

Hazardous-area suitability depends on the exact ordered version and approvals. Do not infer certification from other Crowcon devices.

T4x — long-life O₂ and MPS design choices

T4x’s stated long-life oxygen and MPS combustible sensor technology differs from older T4 configurations. Confirm gas-specific measurable ranges, response and calibrations before swapping it into a fleet that uses catalytic instruments. The MPS channel’s tested combustible-gas response must be evaluated for the site’s identified substances, not assumed universal. Current Ex certification, charging restrictions, ingress rating and alarm settings belong to the exact purchased T4x variant.

T4x — MPS and long-life oxygen in a Zone 0-rated Type 1 — manufacturer technical specification review

Crowcon’s exact product model and options determine gas range, electrical interface, battery, field application and instrument safety certification. Ratings below are not a universal family promise.

Commissioning and risk limits

The major selection point is technology and approval, not just color or battery runtime. MPS may offer resistance to conventional pellistor poisoning and a wider combustible-gas response, but the flammable-gas mix and calibration model must be checked with the manufacturer. Choose T4x when its exact Zone 0 Type 1 approval and instrument options are needed; do not transfer its Ga approval to an existing T4 Type 2. Confirm startup/bump test, alarm logs, user shift TWA and instrument firmware before deployment.
